Sketches: Joshua Tree

“…The sun so bright it leaves no shadows , Only scars carved into stone on the face of the earth , The moon is up over one tree hill, We see the sun go down in your eyes.”

-U2

It’s probably not a coincidence that one of my favorite national parks and one of my favorite albums share a name, both inspired by this tenacious “tree.” The album and the artist, inspired by the symbolism of this vast desert. What at first glance appears to be a barren landscape, in actuality is the meeting point of two diverse and complex ecosystems, thriving despite the impossibly harsh conditions.

The joy of Josha Tree is that it feels like a park designed for wondering. Some national parks demand to be looked at. Joshua Tree demands to be explored.
